Our History
Montana Fence Origins

Montana Fence is currently one of the largest fence contractors in the Pacific Northwest. But that was not always the case. Montana Fence was established by Gary Mild in 1972 in Kalispell, Montana as a one-man operation. Gary ran the business for five years. At this time he decided to sell the business and move his family to another location. The business was purchased by Dennis and Emma Jane Wutke in 1977. Emma Jane was born in Kalispell and the family thought it would be nice to raise their children in the Flathead Valley.
Gary taught Dennis how to properly install fence. Over the next few years Dennis did the bids and installed fencing while Emma Jane ran the office. With quality materials and expert installations Montana Fence established itself as the premier fence company in the Flathead Valley. As time went on the business continued to grow and Dennis decided to retire. In the year 2000 Dennis and Emma Jane sold the business to their son Eric.
Montana Fence eventually outgrew the original location. The business was moved to its present site on Highway 93 just north of Kalispell. Over the years additional land was purchased and the business now has over 15 acres of fencing supplies. Montana Fence currently operates 2 semi-trucks and ships material all over the Northwest. Our products include chain link, vinyl, ornamental steel, and wood. We also stock farm supplies such as wood posts, rails, and farm gates. Montana Fence also has a large supply of temporary construction fence.
In 2008 Montana Fence purchased Idaho Fence in Rathdrum, Idaho. Idaho Fence has since been relocated to their new location in Post Falls Idaho. In 2010 Montana Fence started a fence company to service Eastern Montana. In 2012 Montana Fence expanded into central Montana with the opening of a location in Great Falls.
Montana Fence has a solid reputation for installing high-quality fencing at a fair price. If you are thinking of having a fence installed, or if you would like to do it yourself, give us a call. Our estimates are always free.
